Nepal watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 13-0 loss to Sri Lanka on Game Day 2 (Tuesday) of the West Asia Baseball Cup allowing Sri Lanka to sail in to not the Semi Finals.
The Nepal team struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defending against a very sturdy looking Team Sri Lanka, giving up 13 runs.
Sri Lanka got on the board in the first inning with Sandun Madushka scoring one run bringing the score to an early 1-0.
One bright spot for Nepal seemed to be AMRIT NEPALI in the fourth inning, however, this fell short and Nepal remained scoreless.
Rumesh Lasantha, star pitcher for Team Sri Lanka led things off on the hill for Sri Lanka. He lasted one and one-third innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out two and walking zero.
BIMAL LAMICHHANE led things off on the mound for Nepal surrendering nine runs on eight hits over two innings whilst striking out one. This brought on MOHAMMAD HUSSAIN who threw three innings in relief.
NEPALI led Nepal with one hit in two at bats.
Sri Lanka had 14 hits in the game. Naween Kasthuri Mudali, Sadara Abeyrathna, Madushanka, Sameera Rathnayake, and Iresh Kosala all managed multiple hits for Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Subas Gunasiri made the most plays with five. Sri Lanka created havoc on the base paths, as four players stole at least two bases. Abeyrathna led the way with three.
Sri Lanka on top form was brought to a screeching halt by elements they could not control – the weather. With 5 innings completed, Baseball Federation of Asia (BFA) Officials called the game and stopped play due to the down pour.
