The Sri Lanka Amateur Baseball/ Softball Association (SLABSA) completed their Baseball awareness programs yesterday in a highly successful manner, along with the Sports 1stAllianz Platinum Awards Program.

Having visited 26 schools and 25 districts in 26 days, SLABSA coaches and the Sports 1stAllianz teams returned home following a highly successful awareness and awards program around the Island.

They traveled to the 26 schools starting from Thurstan College on the 16th of January to, Bandaranayake College Gampaha, Ananada College Chillaw, Anuradhapura Central College, Tamil Madhya Maha Vidyalayam Vavuniya, St. Xavier College Mannar, Vermbadi Girls School Jaffna, Kilinochchi Central College, Puthukkudiyiruppu Central College, Sinhala Central College Trincomalee, Royal Central College Polonnaruwa, Shivananda Vidyalaya Batticaloa, DS Senanayake College Ampara, Mahanama College Monaragala, Badulla Central College, Holy Family College Nuwara Eliya, Dharmaraja College Kandy, Vijaya College Matale, Maliyadeva Girls School Kurungala, St. Joseph’s Girls School Kegalle, Seevali College Ratnapura, Debarawewa Central College Tissamaharama, St. Thomas’ Girls School Matara, Mahinda College Galle, Kalutara Vidyalaya National School and finally rounding off on the 10th of February at Anula Vidyalaya Nugegoda.

The response received from the students, parent, and teachers has been overwhelming and SLABSA hopes to carry out follow-up programs so the game will remain and continue to be played in these districts. Speaking with the srilankabaseball website, CEO Priyantha Ekanayake mentioned his delight in the continuous growth of Baseball in and around the Island “I’m ecstatic to see the response by the young kids. We were able to unearth talented players and our only hope is to now continue with these programs and make sure Baseball is played in these schools”

SLABSA extends their thanks Sports 1st Allianz Platinum Awards for giving them the opportunity to travel along with them across the Island and also thank our coaches, Amila Pathiraja, T. Lukshan, Sameera Hewapathirana, Thilan Gunasinghe, Nelanka Karunarathna, Theekshana Gammanpila Kochi Takano from JICA for joining and making this program a success.
